To ensure quality and expedite patient
care, Houston Neurology Associates performs certain
necessary neurodiagnostic testing in the comfort and
convenience of our office.
The following tests are performed in our
office by either a technician or by one of our doctors:
Electroencephalogram (EEG): The EEG records
the brains continuous electrical activity through electrodes
attached to the scalp. It is used to help diagnose structural
diseases of the brain and episodes such as seizures,
fainting or blacking out. This test is painless.

Electromyogram (EMG) and Nerve Conduction
Studies (NCV): An EMG measures and records electrical
activity from the muscles and nerves. This may be helpful
in determining the cause of pain, numbness, tingling
or weakness in the muscles or nerves. Small needles
are inserted into the muscles and mild electrical shocks
are given to stimulate the nerve. Discomfort may be
associated with this test.

Carotid Doppler: A wand-like device (transducer)
sends high-frequency sound waves into your neck. The
sound waves pass through tissue and then return, creating
on-screen images that delineate any narrowing or clotting
in your carotid arteries. This test is painless.
